Flames whipped about the room
Belching out remains
from the gas you poured,
The match you lit
Tonight you went back
to the house of ashes you built
to lay down on the bed
you made
Turning on your side
you gingerly reached over
Fingering at a blanket of ashes,
you tried to find comfort
In your grip they disintegrated, fell apart
as things do for you these days
And you wept for things lost,
ignoring the smoldering piles around you
While you slept
your hair singed
Tufts of smoke
floated into your nostrils
Startled awake, you face the reality
that you burnt down the house
where you were so comfortable
just the night before
