I was maddened by the night’s heat
sweating like an insomniac
wrapped in my bedsheets, thick
with a night of dreams
The first was a joyride,
a parachute trip from dark skies
to dark tunnels, emerging
into a lusty seductress’s room
The second was a return
my high school girlfriend welcomed
me wholly, nurtured and rested me
and I didn’t feel alone
There hasn’t been a third and
its apparent to me now
you’ve been banished, sent away
from my sleep
The mornings now beam bright
sky blue fills my eyes
resting calmly before emerging into the day, those
sticky sleeps are gone like you
