A lot of people are talking about engagement today! After 20 years of promoting the concept, its exciting to see this idea spread and become more of a universal desire and expectation.
However, a lot of people don’t actually understand what it is. It seems like everyone has an idea of what engagement means for them and nobody else! For instance,
- When teachers talk about engagement, they’re planning learning only;
- When salespeople talk about engagement, they’re thinking about money only;
- When therapists talk about engagement, they’re working with feelings only;
- And so on…
Engagement is both a lot bigger than those things, and a lot smaller at the same time. To help explain what it is, I made this graphic with 7 Types of Engagement.
