Surrender Summer

Humidity shines on you
Sweetly holding your blouse
closely to your skin
I’m an admirer
from afar

Smoothly sliding
into hot nighttime air
I watch casually,
trying not to pant
Summer dresses, slicked back hair, smooth skin

Cicadas call me
into the evening
Insisting I listen
to their chorus, which
Is not as robust as in my imagination

But tonight,
tonight I’m alive again
urgent again
Wanting no less
than to get home to you
And celebrate my summer surrender:
you win.
