Crises loom throughout our society, some real, some manufactured, all happening right now. At any given moment schools may be crumbling, health insurance for poor children may be disappearing, universities may be going poor, and parents may be abandoning their children. In addition, the historical pain of the country constantly throbs, as civil rights are still not realized for all, homelessness surges, violence besieges all corners, and hopelessness seems more present than ever.
- We need new responses to the realities that we face today. When we do the same thing we’ve always done we will always get what we’ve always got. Expecting different results is Einstein’s definition of insanity.
- When so many people are without work, and facing the reality that their old jobs probably aren’t coming back, we need new solutions.
- When so many children are being pushed out and dropped out of public schools without hope for furthering their educations, we need new solutions.
- When so many people are sick from obesity and malnutrition and starving for exercise, outdoors, and nature in the midst of our manufactured environments, we need new solutions.
Luckily, we have a limitless pool of candidates for action, and they are us. We are the leaders we have always waited for. Rather than looking for Wonder Woman or Superman to come along and save the day, we have to reach higher and demand more of our society than we ever have before.
That is why we need The Engagement Movement. More than ever, I am determined to help every person in every community around the world realize that each of us has the ability to change the world right now. Look to CommonAction to keep leading the way…
